Live From The Prix De Lausanne!

SF Ballet School student Juliet Doherty has been in Switzerland this week for the Prix de Lausanne, an international competition for young dancers of all nationalities aged 15 to 18. She took a break to send us her thoughts from Europe…

“Dancing in the Prix de Lausanne has been a dream of mine for several years. Initially I was intimidated to take part in such a prestigious competition. Walking through the doors I was a little nervous and had no idea what to expect.

“The jury sits before me, a panel of incredible artists and mentors with whom I have the privilege to work this week. I started out the day with a technique class, afterwards I performed my variation on stage for the very first time… did I mention the stage is raked [ie. it slopes]?! It takes some adjusting and is a challenge but it was so much fun to perform on stage!

“After I ate lunch I met other competitors from around the world. Later in my contemporary class we learned a lot of combinations and really kept moving, it was a good way to end the day. Now I am back at my hotel relaxing and thinking about all of the excitement this week has to bring…”
