Maria In New York

Our dancers’ return from their summer break is imminent, and Principal Dancer Maria Kochetkova has been particularly busy guesting at American Ballet Theatre!

Having performed the dual roles of Odile and Odette in Swan Lake, she’s dancing Aurora in Sleeping Beauty tonight. Her Instagram has her behind-the-scenes insights from New York…

I was disappointed Alina was injured this season but I caught both Maria’s SL a couple weeks back and her Sleeping B tonight and she’s quite good. Could not be easy filling in on short notice.

Though I do think it unfair and somewhat insulting to the ABT group of dancers to have to go outside of the company (to the extent it actually is a company, which is debatable) at the last minute for a substitute. On the other hand, I guess at the prices charged people expect a “star.” Not a soloist. Oh well. I don’t make these decisions I just buy the tickets.
